Alex Alvarado is an associate professor at the Signal Processing Systems (SPS) Group, Department of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in The Netherlands. His research focuses on developing fundamental theoretical understandings of current and future telecommunication systems and lies on the frontier of communication theory, information theory, signal processing, and optical communications. Dr. Alvarado has authored more than 100 papers in leading peer-reviewed journals and conferences, and a book about communication theory aspects of coded modulation (Wiley & Sons 2015). He is a Senior member of the IEEE and during 2016-2018 he was also an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Communications (Optical Coded Modulation and Information Theory). Previously (2014-2016), Dr. Alvarado was a Senior Research Associate at the Optical Networks Group, Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering, University College London, part of the UNLOC project. During 2011-2014, he was a Newton International Fellow and then a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellow, both appointments at the University of Cambridge.
