Gabriele Liga was born in Palermo, Sicily, Italy, in 1983. He received his Telecommunications Engineering B.Sc. (Laurea triennale) from Universita’ degli Studi di Palermo in 2005. He obtained a Telecommunications Engineering M.Sc. (Laurea specialistica) from Politecnico di Milano in 2011 focussing on wireless and optical communications. He received a PhD on optical communications in the Optical Networks Group (ONG) at the University College London, London, UK in 2017.
Since 2017, he has worked as a postdoctoral research associate in ONG within the “UNLOC” and the “INSIGHT” projects, focusing on digital techniques for ultra-high data-rate optical fibre transmission. In 2018 he was awarded a NWO travel grant and a Eurotech Marie-Curie Fellowship to work on the topic of signal shaping for the optical fibre channel. His research is currently oriented towards exploring and approaching the theoretical limits of coherent optical fibre transmission. He currently serves as a reviewer for different journals in the area of optics such as IEEE Journal of Lightwave Technology, OSA Optics Express and IEEE Photonics Technology Letters.
