Graduation Project: Waveform design for intra-datacenter communications

Intra-datacenter communication

Intra-datacenter communication is based on optical fibers. The fiber is usually unamplified and extremely cheap transceivers need to be developed. This means no complicated signal processing algorithms can be afforded.

Project Description

Your tasks:

(1) Study the propagation of the the light in an optical fiber (theoretically and by numerical simulations)

(2) Develop numerical optimization algorithms that allow the creation of

(3) Implement those waveforms and simulate the performance of the system using state-of-the-art GPUs

(4) Test this in an experimental setup

Environment

You will be working in the ICT Lab of the Signal Processing Systems (SPS) Group, TU/e Eindhoven. The ICT Lab collaborates with Electro-Optical Communications (ECO) group.

Your Background

Your basic signal processing background should be enhanced with knowledge about wireless communication and information theory. Course 5LSF0, “Applications of Information Theory”, Q4, provides this extra knowledge.
